A stunning and highly collectible Hollywood Regency armoire by Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft, c.1970s — burl veneer case with signature acid-etched brass panels, in the Mid-Century Modern Hollywood Regency style that has made Rohne's Mastercraft collaboration one of the most sought-after designer furniture pairings on today's market.

Bernhard Rohne (born 1944, Peine, Germany) is a metal artist and furniture designer who trained at WKS Hanover art school before relocating to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1967. After Mastercraft — the Grand Rapids, Michigan furniture manufacturer known for its cosmopolitan flair and exotic burl wood veneers — was acquired by Baker Furniture in 1974, Rohne began designing a celebrated series of case pieces for the company, applying his signature acid-etched brass panels to Mastercraft's already luxurious burl wood cases. The results are pieces that sit at the intersection of Brutalist metalwork, Hollywood Regency glamour, and American MCM craftsmanship. Rohne's work, like that of Paul Evans, remains popular with interior designers and can lend unique, eccentric, and human notes to any interior.

This armoire — at a commanding 72"H × 42"W × 20"D — is a significant, room-defining piece. The burl veneer case and acid-etched brass panels create the rich contrast of organic warmth and metallic drama that is Rohne's calling card. Comparable examples are currently listed on 1stDibs in the $2,000–$5,000 range.
