A rare and historically significant collection of 4 original color lithographs by Joan Miró (Spanish, 1893–1983), each hand-signed in black pencil and accompanied by an individual Certificate of Authenticity from Collectors Comp Inc. — extracted from the celebrated 1953 exhibition catalogue Miró: Recent Paintings, published by the Pierre Matisse Gallery, New York, and printed at the legendary Mourlot Studios, Paris.

This publication occupies a singular place in the history of modern art. Pierre Matisse (1900–1989) — son of Henri Matisse — opened his New York gallery in 1931 and became the primary dealer for Miró in the United States from 1932, playing a fundamental role in bringing the great European modernists to American audiences. The Recent Paintings catalogue was produced in 1953 to celebrate Miró's 60th birthday, with text by James Johnson Sweeney — curator at the Museum of Modern Art and director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum — one of the most distinguished art historians of the 20th century.

The entire catalogue was printed at Mourlot Studios in Paris, the master lithographic workshop responsible for prints by Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Braque, and virtually every great artist of the era. The deluxe edition (copies 1–100) was issued with an original hand-signed Miró lithograph; the standard edition (copies 101–1350) was printed on premium velin paper. These 4 signed lithographs — the front and back covers and interior plates — represent pages extracted from this landmark publication.
