FUR-079 Heinz & Bodo Rasch for Mauser Werke Waldeck — Model RS7 Bauhaus Cantilever Chairs, Set of 6, Germany, c.1930s–50s
A rare and significant set of six Model RS7 cantilever armchairs by Mauser Werke Waldeck, Germany — one of the definitive objects of the German Bauhaus Modern movement and among the most historically important tubular steel chair designs of the 20th century.
The RS7 was designed by brothers Heinz and Bodo Rasch for Mauser Werke Waldeck in 1932, at the height of the Bauhaus's influence on German industrial design. Mauser Werke, based in Waldeck, Germany, was one of the premier manufacturers of Bauhaus-era tubular steel furniture, producing designs alongside the era's most celebrated names — Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Mart Stam among them. The RS7's elegant cantilever form — chrome-plated tubular steel bending continuously from floor to armrest to backrest — embodies the Bauhaus ideal of the chair as both functional object and sculptural statement. The design entered continuous production and was manufactured by Mauser into the 1950s and beyond, making these chairs among the most authentic and collectible expressions of the Bauhaus tubular steel tradition available on the market today.
Sets of six RS7 chairs are exceptionally rare on the market — individual examples appear regularly but matched sets of this size almost never surface together. This is a significant acquisition.
