FUR-068 Severin Hansen for Haslev Møbelsnedkeri — Round Teak Coffee Table, c.1960s, Original Deer Label
A rare and beautiful original round teak coffee table designed by celebrated Danish master Severin Hansen for the prestigious Haslev Møbelsnedkeri of Denmark, circa 1960s — retaining a remnant of the original Haslev deer label on the base, which authenticates the piece and distinguishes it from the numerous unlabeled examples on the market. A genuine document of the golden age of Danish Modern design.
Severin Hansen (1914–1987) was one of the defining designers at Haslev Møbelsnedkeri and a key figure in Danish midcentury modernism. His work is increasingly popular among vintage lovers, who hold him in high esteem for his high quality joinery and materials — and his teak pieces are among the rarest, produced in far smaller numbers than his rosewood and mahogany examples. Hansen's characteristic design language — the seamless diagonal joinery where legs meet the tabletop, the precise proportions, the warmth of natural wood — is immediately recognizable to any student of Danish Modern furniture.
Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, located near Copenhagen, was one of Denmark's most respected furniture workshops. Their distinctive deer label (Haslev means "hazel grove" but the deer became their trademark identifier) marks pieces of genuine Danish cabinet-making provenance. The combination of Hansen's design and Haslev's craftsmanship produced some of the finest furniture of the 1950s and 1960s — pieces that appear regularly at 1stDibs, Pamono, Chairish, and Wright at significant prices.
This round form — 35.5" diameter, 20" tall — is the ideal size for a sofa grouping, reading chair, or center of a seating arrangement. The circular top, free of corners, is a supremely livable form.
