After Gio Ponti
Colorful Hand-Painted Iron Lattice Occasional Coffee Table | Painted Tapered Legs
H 17 in. × W 35.5 in. × D 35.5 in. | c.1950s–70s

A vivid and sculptural occasional table in the style of Gio Ponti's celebrated colorful painted iron lattice designs — one of the most recognizable and beloved visual signatures of Italian mid-century modernism. The iron frame is decorated with colorful painted details over a geometric lattice structure supported on tapered metal legs, a composition that draws directly on Ponti's iconic Planchart/Arlecchino table series, designed in 1954 for Villa Planchart in Caracas and later reissued by Molteni&C as one of the canonical objects of Italian design history.

Gio Ponti (1891–1979) is arguably the most influential figure in 20th-century Italian modernism — architect, furniture designer, ceramicist, publisher, and theorist, whose output over sixty years shaped the identity of Italian design worldwide. His painted metal lattice tables, with their multicolor geometric grids inspired by the De Stijl painters Mondrian and Van Doesburg, are among his most joyful and recognizable works: the colors shift optically depending on the viewing angle, making the table an active visual object rather than a passive surface. Ponti published his thoughts on this effect in Domus in 1954: "The colours of the different segments of this table are arranged in such a way that their tone changes depending on what angle you look from."

This example — catalogued "after Gio Ponti" and produced in the spirit and style of the original Ponti designs — captures the graphic energy, colorful spirit, and architectural presence of the source. At 35.5 inches square and 17 inches high, it is a generous cocktail table scale, commanding in a living room or lounge setting.
