FUR-131 After Ludwig Mies van der Rohe — Pair of Lounge Chairs, Chrome-Plated Steel & Leather, 29" H × 32" W × 33" D, c.1975, Grand Rapids Provenance
A pair of lounge chairs after Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, produced c.1975 in chrome-plated steel and leather — offered from a distinguished single-owner provenance and acquired through Wright, Chicago's leading auction house for modern design.
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) is one of the most consequential architects and designers of the 20th century, co-director of the Bauhaus and later Director of Architecture at IIT Chicago. His furniture designs — the Barcelona Chair, the Brno Chair, the MR Chair — have been in continuous production since their introduction and are among the most reproduced forms in the history of modern design. These c.1975 lounge chairs follow Mies's vocabulary of chrome-plated steel and leather in a relaxed, seating-scaled form.
Provenance: Collection of Marjorie (Jo) Shirley, Grand Rapids, MI — thence by descent. A single-owner collection provenance from Wright Auction, the benchmark institution for American modern design sales, adds material and documentary value.
