FUR-025 Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft — Acid-Etched Burl & Glass Cocktail Table, Hollywood Regency / MCM, 55"W, c.1970s
A striking Hollywood Regency cocktail table by Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft, c.1970s — glass top on a burl veneer and acid-etched brass frame, in the glamorous MCM Hollywood Regency style that has made Rohne's Mastercraft collaboration one of the most collected designer furniture pairings on the current market.
Bernhard Rohne (born 1944, Peine, Germany) trained at WKS Hanover art school before relocating to Vancouver, Canada in 1967. His partnership with Mastercraft — the Grand Rapids, Michigan manufacturer of exotic burl veneer furniture — produced some of the most visually commanding case pieces and tables of the 1970s. Rohne's acid-etched brass panels, with their Abstract Expressionist patterning and oxidized metallic surfaces, transformed Mastercraft's already luxurious burl wood furniture into objects that feel simultaneously brutalist and glamorous. His work, like that of Paul Evans, remains popular with interior designers and can lend unique, eccentric notes to any interior.
This cocktail table features a glass top resting on a frame clad in burl veneer with Rohne's signature acid-etched brass panels — a combination of materials that rewards close inspection and commands attention from across the room. Comparable Rohne/Mastercraft coffee tables are actively listed on 1stDibs in the $1,500–$3,500 range.
