A wonderful and rare set of 24 Bohemian Czech cocktail glasses in the prized Alexandrite colorway — made with neodymium oxide in the glass batch, which produces the magical color-shifting property that has made Alexandrite glass one of the most sought-after categories of Czech and Bohemian glassware among collectors. Under incandescent or warm light, the glass appears a warm lavender-pink; under daylight or fluorescent light, it shifts to a cool blue-green or violet. The effect is genuinely stunning in person and at the table, and gives these glasses an almost supernatural liveliness.

Bohemian Alexandrite glass was produced primarily in the interwar period and through the mid-century by Czech glasshouses working in the tradition of the great Bohemian glass industry. The neodymium colorant — named for its similarity to the color-change properties of the alexandrite gemstone — was expensive and technically demanding to work with, which is why complete sets of this scale in presentable condition are increasingly uncommon. These glasses carry no apparent maker's mark, consistent with much Bohemian export glassware of the period.
