MCM-046 Gray-Stan — Signed Red Swirl Art Glass Vase, c.1930s, 7.5" H × 9" W
A beautiful and rare signed art glass vase by Gray-Stan — one of the most celebrated and collectible English art glass studios of the early 20th century. Red swirl decoration on a hand-blown form. Signed. Circa 1930s. Height 7.5", width 9", depth 5.5".
Gray-Stan was a small studio glassworks founded in London in 1926 by Mrs. Elizabeth Graydon-Stannus, a pioneering Irish-born designer who was passionate about reviving the traditions of hand-crafted art glass in England. Working with a small team of skilled glassblowers, Gray-Stan produced richly colored, swirled, and layered art glass vases, bowls, and decorative objects that drew on Venetian and Bohemian traditions while developing a distinctly individual aesthetic. The studio operated until 1936, making all genuine examples over 85 years old.
Gray-Stan glass is actively and seriously collected, particularly in the UK and among international art glass specialists. Signed examples — which this is — command a meaningful premium. The red swirl is one of the studio's most striking and recognizable color treatments: vivid, fluid, and unmistakably handmade.
